Another round was deeply necessary — for some people out there, the last vonBiomes version 17 still had some issues. So I took the time to do more polishing and optimization, fixing bugs and in general improving everything further. But there is also new stuff in the fresh vonBiomes mod version 18.

New and Updated:

Coral Low Tide Biome

A little more work has gone into the new biome, and Patreon "lebgener" wished on Discord for the possibility that missions on the biome can have raised sea levels, like it sometimes happens on Space Port City. This is in, so don't be surprised if you start underwater;)

Performance Upgrade: deep optimization of the new lighting system

Optimizing the overhauled lighting system, volumetric clouds and fog was a big step. If you had low frame rates before, that should (keeping fingers crossed) now be generally fixed if biome/environment related. You can still configure all options in Mod Options and fine-tune performance versus quality. Moreover, there was still one bugged volumetric cloud material variant. That is fixed, too.

New Mod Option Layout

Speaking of Mod Options: I have improved the interface layout with sections - that should help with the grwoing number of settings and provide a better overview.

New Mod Options: Saturation & Color Grading FX

And there are new options: you can now find a Saturation slider, in which you can make your missions less or more saturated — up to playing Mechwarrior in black and white if you set it down to zero! ;) On the opposite, a new mod option enables Gradient FX Overlays, basically tinting the missions randomly in new ways. Give it a try- if you like your games more colorful, than that is definitely something to check out:)

Fix: Ambient Volume Mod Option should now also work with forest sounds

Turning the Mod Option Ambient Volume slider to zero did not cut away the forest sounds. That should be now again the case for those who prefer to disable the ambient sounds in the mod.

Improvements & Adjustments to vonBiomes integrated lighting

I have further tweaked many variables and tested and tweaked and tested and tweaked… so lighting should have less unintended situation and is more balanced across the procedural generation and randomization of missions.

Oh yes, and there is something for the season… Play Mechwarrior around Easter and find out;)

 

I (deeply) hope that update provides now a stable and polished basis to continue (finally) with other stuff.

I have taken a first glance at the DLC6 Arena System and I hope I can integrate more Arenas and also the Solaris 7 Levels there — let's see! Also, there are still updates for vonHUD and vonMissions in the queue… so much to do;)
I am looking forward to the next steps, and thanks to your ongoing support, new stuff will come in April for all my fellow Mechwarriors.
